Huzzah for stuff!

In Gears of War 2, there is actually a segment in which you enter the Rift Worm. Somewhat shortly after Skorge commands it to sink some city of which its name escapes me, you go in there to investigate. You meet up with the Cole Train there, and he leads you to where Baird is. Cole's other drop-buddy was already killed, but Damon Baird was still waiting like a sitting duck for either someone to come save him, or for Locust to come torture him to near death. Thankfully (or unfortunately, because one either admires Baird or hates his attitude), you beat the Locust to him, save him, he temporarily rejoins your group, and you all keep going on. Soon enough, you reach the farthest end of the sunk city, and you get ambushed by Locust. After you clear the ambush, the Rift Worm swallows Carmine because he was too slow to get on the chopper, and then the King Raven (King Ravens are COG choppers, essentially) gets swallowed. You (Marcus Fenix), Dom, Cole, and Baird find themselves in side the worm's mouth, and they decide to investigate even further. Your next objective then is to kill the Rift Worm. In the worm, you pass through many obstacles, such as its crushing piston-like digestive teeth, working your way around acidic grass-like structures and fluids, working through the acid-spewing stomach, etc. Each of these obstacles kill you if you screw up on them. There is also a classic segment in which the Rift Worm swallows a building-sized mass made of cement, cars, bricks, and other silliness, and you have to escape the mass via an Indiana Jones-ish escape with parts where you chop membranes down with the Lancer's bayonet and where you have to shoot a car off a cliff thingy to make a bridge across an acid pit. Yeah. Soon, you reach the instestines, which pretty much constitutes a maze you have a limited time to pass through before you choke on the fumes. You then cut the worm's heart's arteries and try to make it bleed to death from the inside. But it turns out the worm has multiple hearts. So...yeah. Earlier, around when you get to the stomach, you see Benjamin Carmine crawling to get away. He is obviously terribly frightened, as these little bugs that help the worm digest its food chase him down. Delta isn't fast enough to kill the bugs, and, well, the bugs get a hold of Carmine and tear his insides out. Delta kills the surrounding bugs and talks to Carmine before Carmine dies. He has acidic crap all over where he was disembowled, and he says the classic-but-corny quote, "Tell my mother and father...and my brother...that I love them..." in which he then dies.

And that particular act of the campaign is excruciatingly long. It's not just the worm part. It begins where you go underground to escape from Skorge (who attacks with his beastly-ass chainsaw-sword-staff thingy), and also to search for the cause of the random earthquakes across Sera, particularly around the Jacinto Plateau. While Delta made it through the ground safely, and shortly after meet Carmine, Dizzy Wallin went missing in action to never be seen again, while Tai Kaliso was captured by the Locust to be tortured. You then search the underground for what seems like forever until you finally get to where you see the Rift Worm for the first time, as well as Skorge for the second time, this time riding his Hydra. Then the sunken city part, then the worm, then the act is complete. And there are still three more acts to finish after that before the credits roll. :P

Maybe I should warn for spoilers next time.

I just posted that for the people who know they won't play Gears of War 2 ever. :P

How was the strip?
